Eligibility & Common Questions
1. At least 50% Staff. (Academic and student employees should be referred to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Financial Aid respectively).
2. Out of ordinary or sudden emergency expense.
According to UCR Policy & Procedures Manual 650-75, the following ARE eligible: new employee adjusting to monthly pay, new employee moving expense, current employee car repairs for their transportation vehicle, death in the family, etc.
The following are NOT eligible: Taxes due, car insurance, tickets, vacation, home repairs, school registration fees, annual furloughs, moving expenses/deposits, etc.
3. Employee needs to have checked other sources (e.g., bank, credit union, family) and have been denied. These sources must be listed on the application. (Copy of denial letter from lending institution is needed. Also required is copy of paid bill, after the fact.) New employee does not have to check other credit sources, but our office does verify with supervisor that employee is employed and will notify supervisor that employee is taking out this loan and that we need to be notified if employee were to leave before the loan is paid in full.
4. Can NOT have outstanding balance of previous emergency loan owing or have two concurrent loans at the same time.
5. Can NOT have outstanding receipts/documents from a previous emergency loan.
6. If the application is received in our office prior to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, the direct deposit should be available in your bank account three days after the day submitted. **Accommodations may be made for persons with no personal bank account.**
